Taking on the role of Carer for your ageing loved ones
When is the right time for home care?
It is not often easy to determine exactly when your loved one requires additional support to live well at home. There are times when it can be more apparent, for example following an accident or injury, or on return home from hospital, but at other times the indicators may not be as obvious. Things like changes in eating habits, signs of memory loss, changes to energy levels or difficulty taking part in day-to-day activities can all be signs that extra assistance could be of value. If you notice these sorts of behavioural changes in your ageing loved one, Home Care Assistance Gold Coast are here to help. Get in touch today to help your loved one live an easier and more fulfilled life at home.
Respecting our ageing loved ones
Research shows that 80% of older Australians prefer to age in the comfort of their own home rather than an aged care facility*. We all want what is best for our ageing loved ones, and to respect their preferences, and at Home Care Assistance Gold Coast we exist to help make this preference a reality.
The idea of having Care Workers in the home for some people might impact their feelings of independence, making it more challenging as they are resistant to the idea. At Home Care Assistance Gold Coast, we understand this challenge, and can provide you with strategies to address the underlying concerns or fears and therefore help make the transition to receiving support easier for everyone.
Home care funding options
Paying Privately
Home Care Packages
The Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP)
Instead of providing services for you, the Commonwealth Home Support Program helps those over the age of 65 years to maintain independence by providing access to entry-level support services. These services generally involve a small contribution to use them. CHSP can be a good option to access whilst waiting for a Home Care Package to be allocated.
Carer Gateway Respite
As a family caregiver, it can be helpful to know that emergency respite care or simply a short notice back-up is at hand. If you find that in your role as a Carer you are suddenly unable to provide care or support, the Carer Gateway line is available. Phone 1800 422 737 to learn more.
How to apply for home care funding
The first step to finding out what funding might apply to your loved one is to call My Aged Care on 1800 200 422 or apply for an assessment online.
To complete the online assessment, you will need your Medicare card details and to nominate the primary contact person for your loved one. The primary contact will be required for a face-to-face meeting to better understand the support needs. You can find out more about the types of assessments, what happens, and how best to prepare for it here.
What happens once funding is established?
Once your funding is established, be it private or government subsidised, our Home Care Assistance Gold Coast team will work alongside you and your loved one to create an individualised plan focused on a full life experience.
